How To Maintain Your Bow

Jun 22,2022 | CHN Archery

Your bow needs maintenance to perform its best. A well-maintained bow will provide years of enjoyable shooting. Here are some tips on bow care.

How do I store my bow?

Store your bow in a climate-controlled area. The best way to store a bow is in a bow case or on a bow stand.

Where should I put my bow when I’m outside?

Store your bow in the shade. A portable small bow stand is an excellent option for outdoor practice, can hold your bow securely. Leave your bow in hot direct sunlight or exposing in extreme conditions for long periods of time can seriously affect the performance of your bow limbs.

Can I shoot in the rain?

Archery is a rain or shine activity. Just remember to dry all parts after shooting and put them in a dry and well-ventilated place.

How do I care for my bowstring?

The bowstring wears out over time. You can prolong the bowstring’s life by maintaining and properly storing it. Before you shoot each day, inspect your bowstring for anything that looks fuzzy, and run your fingers up and down its length to see if it feels dry. If you detect either condition, apply wax to the bowstring and rub it in with your fingers until it melts fully into the string.

When should I replace my bowstring?

Well-maintained bowstrings last about two years, and should then be replaced. If you shoot a lot, you might have to replace your bowstring every six months to a year. The bowstring should also be replaced if it has frays or a broken strand.
